Flowers- Flowers come in all shapes, colors, and sizes. They often smell
sweet to atract insects to visit them. The bees carry pollen from one plant
to another. Flowers make the fruits that hold seeds. In conifers, such as
pines and firs, the cones protect the seeds
Stem- The stem carries water and nutrients to the leaves and flower. It
also lets the plant grow toward the light or sunshine. Some stems are woody
and hard and some are flexible.
Root- The roots hold the plant into the soil so it doesn't fall over. They
also take up the water from the soil.
Fruits and Vegetables- They come directly from plants. Fruit is the part of
the plant that holds the new seeds. The other parts of plants that we eat
are called vegetables. Carrots are roots, broccoli is a flower, and peas
are seeds and these can all be eaten.
Leaves- Leaves make the food that plants need through a process called
photosynthesis. The leaves contain chlorophyll, which enables them to use
light energy, water and carbon dioxide to make the food for the plant.
