Evaluation

You will be evauluated on the following:
   * Your Survival Guide must contain the following items put together in a  
     binder within page protectors. Each assignment must be put in order
     with this evaluation sheet printed out in the front inside pocket. It 
     is best to create your Survival Guide as you complete each activity so 
     it is organized. Good luck!

1. Successful completion of the Group Role sheet
         * The Role sheet should contain the names of your group members, 
           and the responsiblities (projects) each member has to complete. 

2.  Descriptive Paragraph Rubric
         *  Each paragraph should contain:
               * Main Idea, details and a conclusion
               * Five senses
               * Creative and descriptive adjectives
               * Corect spelling, punctuation and capitalization.

3.  NEW YORK MAP Project:
         * You must include:
               * Correct Labeling and shading of Catskill Mountains
               * Major cities
               * Three major rivers bordering the Catskills
               * Proper spelling and capitalization

4.  Survival of the Cheapest
         * You must include:
               * A list of items necessary to survive for a year in the  
                 wilderness not exceeding $40.00.
               * The items must be appropriate to Survival 
               * Include a picture of each item along with its price.
               * Show your math work. Include the total price of all items. 
                It must be correct.

5. Journal Entries:
        * You must include:
               * One individual entry per groups of chapters. 
                 Total =  5 Journal entries
               * Proper spelling, capitalization, sentence structure
               * Written in first perosn point of view (except for animal)
               * Journal entries must reflect the questions asked
               * Feelings and connections 
               * Each group member must add their 5 entries to the Guide.

6.  Vocabulary Wordfinder Sheets
        * You must include:
               * Minimum of 4 words per chapter (22 sheets) minimum
               * Successfully completed sheets following directions
               * Proper spelling , caps, and punctuation
               
7. Tree Home Paragraph
        * You must include:
               * A well written how to paragraph containing a main idea, 
                 details and a strong conclusion.
               * Describe in detail the how to
               * Use evidence from the text to support your answer
               * Proper spelling, caps, and punctuation
               * Include picture or tree home created.
8. Recipe Book
        *You must include:
               * Minimum of 5 recipes for edible plants
               * Be creative: One recipe per page. Decorate how you wish!
               * Neat and organized writing of steps to create recipe
               * Include pictures of each recipe (illustrations)
               * Proper spelling, caps, and punctuation
               * Cover and a title to be put into the Survival Guide
               
9. Nonfiction Animal Booklet
        * You must include:
               * Minimum of 5 animals (you can include more)
               * Include: animal name, picture or illustration, animal    
                 description, interesting facts (5+), Warning section or
                 what to watch out for (3+), and animals personality.
               * Creativity: Decorate and design the book as you wish!
               * Cover and title to be put in Survival Guide
               * Proper spelling,punctuation and caps

10. Preparing for Winter List
        * You must include:
               * Steps to prepare for winter (minimum of 10)
               * Pictures or illustrations to explain
               * Use evidence from the text
               * Be creative: Decorate this list as you wish. Be sure to set
                 it up as a list. You can have Step 1 along with a picture  
                 and a few sentences to explain. Then move to Step 2 on the 
                 same page and so forth.
               * Proper spelling,caps, and punctuation

11. Venn Diagram on Sam vs. Thoreau
         * You must include:
               * A successful venn Diagram comparing Sam Gribley to Thoreau
               * Evidence from the text
               * Proper spelling and caps
               * Note form
               * Use white computer paper and circle tracers to create your
                 Venn Diagram
               * Put 1 Venn Diagram into the Guide.
12. News Article
        * You must include:
               * The 5 W's: Who? What? When ? Where? How?
               * Be descriptive and creative as you create a newspaper 
                 article to tell about fictitious events of the campers
               * Grab your readers' attention
               * Published in Microsoft Word or program of your choice. Be 
                 Creative!
               * Include a title, author (you), illustration or pictures,
                 grabber
               * This should be one typed page printed in color and included 
                 in your Survival Guide.

13. Survival Game
         * You must include:
               * Name of your game
               * Successfully created gameboard. Be creative and colorful. 
                 You can use a gameboard template from one of the links or 
                 create your own to fit into your Survival Guide (it can be 
                 folded).
               * Step by step directions for your game 
               * Include survival tips and what you learned. Make your game 
                 a review for your campers
               * Include all materials needed to play your game.
               * Proper spelling, capitalization and punctuation (where 
                 necessary)
               * Include picture of the game. Put game into Survival Guide  
                 in a bag.
