Earth is the third planet from the Sun in a system that includes the moon,
the Sun, eight other planets and their moons, and smaller objects. The Sun,
an average star, is the central and largest body in the solar system.
Models/diagrams provide understanding of scale within the solar system.

Students will understand that the Earth, sun and moon within the larger
system of planets and other celestial bodies. Even though they are all parts
of the same system, a comparison of their properties reveals great
differences among celestial bodies.
