Your group will consist of three people:
1. Physical Geographer-main duties include mapping and describing location,
including major landscape features, mountains and bodies of water, time
zones, and climate of your region.
2. Human and Cultural Geographer - Explore the important landmarks, places,
and cultural diversity in your region and discuss why they are important.
3. Tourism Geographer - main duties include developing an itinerary for a
visitor to your region who is planning a 7 day vacation, including major
transportation features and illustrations.
Your mission is to produce a magazine layout of your region for Travel
U.S.A.! Geographical Magazine, worthy of the prestigious Mercator
Prize! After you have
completed your research, your group will design a magazine layout that
includes:
1. Map of your region, which includes important political and physical
features, such as state boundaries, capitals and major cities, major
mountains and landscape features, rivers and other important bodies of water.
2. A Fact Sheet that illustrates the appropriate type of
clothing needed for at least 3 different climate areas in your region.
3. A 5 paragraph essay that discusses physical, climatic and political
features and how they contribute to the economy of the area.
4. A table that lists each state in your region, and its capital, largest
city, state bird, state flower, and important landmarks, national parks,
and cultural points of interest for your region, and an explanation of the
and location of each.
5. A recipe from your region that is representative of one of the cultural
identities for your region, and that is appropriate for cooking at school on
the cooking cart.
6. a 5 paragraph essay that discusses characteristics (e.g. foods,
celebrations, music, art, etc.) of (a) cultural group(s) in your
specific region.
7. A 7 day itinerary that will provide a potential tourist with an exciting
view of the best your region has to offer.
8, A 5 paragraph essay explaining 3 reasons a visitor should choose your
region to visit.
9. An advertisement that uses either the glittering generalities,
bandwagon, or testimonial approach to advertize your specific region.
10. Each person on the team will write a narrative, using one of the
states/areas in the specific region as the setting of the story.
