they are somewhat messy – lacking final editing.
1 - There are major inaccuracies contained in the maps, charts and tables 
and they are poorly done or incomplete.

                                  Essays 
4 - Outstanding job!  This essay scores a 4 in content, organization and 
style and a 2 for conventions on the WASL (Washington Assessment of Student 
Learning) Rubric. 
3 - Good Job!  This essay scores at least a 3 for content, organization and 
style and a 2 for conventions on the WASL Rubric. 
2 - Improving!  This essay scores at least a 2 for content, organization and 
style and a 2 for conventions on the WASL Rubric. 
1 - Needs Work!  This essay scores below a 2 for content, organization and 
style and below a 2 for conventions on the WASL Rubric.

                                Narratives 
4 - Outstanding job!  This narrative scores a 4 in content, organization and 
style, and a 2 for conventions on the WASL (Washington Assessment of Student 
Learning) Rubric.  The narrative accurately includes at least 4 references 
to the region. 
3 - Good Job!  This narrative scores at least a 3 for content, organization 
and style, and a 2 for conventions on the WASL Rubric.  The narrative 
accurately includes at least 3 references to the region. 
2 - Improving!  This narrative scores at least a 2 for content, organization 
and style, and a 2 for conventions on the WASL Rubric.  The narrative 
accurately includes at least 2 references to the region. 
1 - Needs Work!  This narrative scores below a 2 for content, organization 
and style, and below a 2 for conventions on the WASL Rubric.  The narrative 
accurately includes 1 reference or no references to the region.

                    Creative Tasks (e.g. fact sheet, recipe, poster) 
4 - The creative task is neatly and accurately done.  It is ready for 
publishing.  It includes at least 4 illustrations. 
3 - The creative task is mostly neatly done, with minor inaccuracies. It 
includes at least 3 illustrations.
2 - The creative task has major inaccuracies (e.g. incorrect information) 
and is messy. It includes at least 2 illustrations.
1 - The creative task is incomplete, has major inaccuracies and is messy – 
needing substantial work before publishing.  It includes only 1, or no 
illustrations.

*Note* - You must score a 3 or better average on the entire project to win 
the coveted Mercator Prize!!!
