Process

 1.	Your group should choose one genocidal event listed below to
research. Only one group per class may research a particular genocide. So
decide quickly.

Genocides to choose from:

•	Sudan/Darfur
•	Guatemalan Indians
•	Ethopian Anuak
•	Bosnia-Herzegovina
•	Rwanda
•	Pol Pot in Cambodia
•	Rape of Nanking
•	Stalin's Forced Famine
•	Armenians in Turkey

2. Choose, read, and understand your roles before beginning research for
this project. NOTE: Each person has an equal role and will be accountable
for their section of the assignment.

 Project Manager
• Research Coordinator
• Artistic Director
• Administrative Assistant

3. Begin research using the "Research Links." They are all you need in
order to get this task completed.

• Define genocide and identify the eight stages of genocide
• Research one instance of genocide in the twentieth century.
• Collaborate with a group on creating an online article for the genocide
you have studied.
• Show what is important for your community to understand about genocide?
• Show what could be done at each stage of genocide to prevent it from
happening?
• Show what role do bystanders and upstanders play in conflicts?

4. After researching a genocide in the 20th century, you and a group will
be creating a display for your "High School's Museum of Remembrance." In
order to assure a professional display, you must accomplish the following
tasks.

• Locate and replicate at least one map of the region in which the conflict
occurred. The map should contain relevant information to the conflict
studied.
• Research the major players involved in the genocide and select images or
artifacts to represent these groups - perpetrators, victims, bystanders, and
upstanders.
• Identify and prepare at least seven primary sources for display that will
help the viewers understand this event (documents, photographs, survivor
accounts, etc.) A.K.A. Compile everyone's research.
• Prepare a written introduction to your exhibit and information cards for
the displays.
• Create a historical fiction piece. This historical fiction piece can be
a journal, storyboard, letter, graphic novel, painted artwork, etc. Your
historical fiction piece should relate to the genocide and include facts
from your research.
• Build and decorate your museum exhibit.
