Introduction

Over the course of time, populations will change to better accommodate 
environmental pressures.  Take a look at the picture below.  All of the 
finches started out in the same species, but through gradual adaptations, 
one species became many, each with special traits suited to the environment 
they live in.  Have you ever wondered why animals look the way they do?  Why 
do birds have beaks, or why do mammals have hair?  All living creatures have 
evolved specialized adaptations to make life easier.  Can you think of any 
animals that started out in the same species then evolved into several due 
to environmental pressures?  Do you think humans have the potential to break 
into different species in the future?
