For Prohibition
OBJECTIVE OF GROUP:
This group is in charge of finding research on why prohibition should have
taken place. The group should use the links below to find credible evidence
to back up their claim.
The objective of this group is to prove that prohibition was not a failure.
Thus, the group must also conduct research to counter the arguments of the
group that is against prohibition.
Keep these questions in mind while conducting your research.
*Why was prohibition such a critical issue at the time?
*Who were the people involved in passing the 18th Amendment?
*Who were the founders of the prohibition movement?
*Why did people want to make alcohol Illegal?
*What part does morality have in prohibition?
DEBATE:
As a group, you must decide which members are going to cover the different
areas of prohibition. You need to make sure that each person speaks and
provides us with some information about your topic. Once this is achieved,
each member must make 3 x 5 cards on their particular area of prohibition.
These cards should be used to prepare for the debate and to be used if needed
during the debate.
ESSAY:
Each individual team member is responsible for writing a three-page essay on
their view on prohibition. The student must support their claims with
material obtained while doing their research. Also, answer the following
questions
somewhere in your three page essay.
*What do you think was the long-term effect of prohibition of the United
States? Was it good for the U.S. economy? For society?
*Do you think it is possible for the government to enact prohibition once
again?

*What kind of things do you think would be banned if we had prohibition
today? Would it be different from the 1920�s?
ASSIGNMENT:
Using links four and five analyze the graphs and answer the following
questions on a separate piece of paper.
*What does this data have on the effect of drinking and prohibition (did
alcohol consumption go down during prohibition)?
*Do you see any trends?
*Did alcohol consumption in the 1920�s go up or down compared to the previous
decade? Was this increase or decline significant?
*Did production of malt beverages go up or down?
*What does this data have on the effect of drinking?
*Do you think there was a black market for alcohol?
*Do you think the data is accurate? Is there something missing?
