Historian #5: The Aftermath
The Vietnam War, unlike any in American history, has had a deep and
traumatic impact on the psyche of the American people, both at the time of
the conflict and in the present day. The UN General Assembly would like to
have a better understanding of how the war has affected the social
consciousness of the United States. Specifically, their interested in
understanding the following:
1.) How did Americans react to the massive losses incurred by U.S. forces?
What was the impact of the war on U.S. soldiers?
2.) How were American veterans treated and perceived upon their arrival back
home?
3.) What impact did the American defeat in Vietnam have on that region and
Americas standing in the global community?
4.) How is the Vietnam War remembered today, in 2008 and do you feel that
this view is appropriate or biased in some way?
