You will assume the role of your nations’ representative at Versailles.
France will be represented by the cunning Georges Clemenceau, prime minister
of France. He is eager to punish Germany and to protect against another
invasion of France by Germany. The United States will be represented by the
idealist Woodrow Wilson, president of the United States. Wilson comes to
Europe with great hope in a spirit of internationalism that he hopes will
build in the hearts of his countrymen. Germany is represented by Ulrich
Graf von Brockdorff-Rantzau who hopes to keep a united Germany and hopes to
receive rational terms from the Allies.
You are writing a letter which will be published in the major newspapers of
your country. As such it should appeal to the nature of your respective
country’s public opinion. You must consider the stance of your opposition
and be able to explain to your people why the views of the other powers are
either wrong or right. Your position must include three stances that your
nation is championing at the peace talks. One of your positions should
argue for or against an international policing body (Such as the League of
Nations) or alliance system (Such as the one that existed before the war).
Explain how your country will benefit under your described policy and how it
will ensure your ultimate goal: A LASTING PEACE.
