Job Description
The geographer's role is to provide geographical details about the area in
which the civilization you have chosen lived.
He/she must sketch a map of the region, making sure to label bodies of water
and any mountain ranges, to be included on the poster.
The geographer should provide information about the climate, identifying
features of the area, and (if possible) ways that geography influenced the
way of life for the civilization. For example, living on an island might
influence a civilization to develop a strong navy or seafaring economy.
The geographer is also responsible for including a list of the modern day
countries that the region includes. For example, Mesopotamia lay in the
modern day country of Iraq; The Fertile Crescent refers to an area that
incorporates parts of the modern day countries of Iraq, Syria, Jordan,
Lebanon, and Israel.
It is the geographer's responsibility to create a bulleted list of these
details for inclusion on the poster and to make sure that the map he/she
sketched is placed neatly and visibly on the poster as well. The geographer
must follow the director's instructions as to where on the poster these
items belong.
The links for all of your research can be found on the page with your
civilization's name on it. Make sure to choose the links under the heading
of geography.
**Tip: Draw the map on plain piece of white paper, illustrate it and then
tape or glue it to the poster. Do the same with the bulleted list. This way
any mistakes made are easily corrected. If you draw it directly on the
poster and you make a mistake the whole poster will have to be recreated.
