After the introduction has taken place:
* Decide on who your group will be and which role each of you will play.
Since this is our first WebQuest together, you may pick who to work with,
however, you must work diligently and cohisevely. Final grouping is up to
teacher discretion. Once you have your groups and jobs...
* Begin researching your task by utilizing your text, encyclopedia, and the
internet links on our website.
* Think about what life might have been like back then - think about how
every little aspect of your life would change, ranging from access to food,
hygiene, shelter, clothing, territory. Really think about what you would do
in a day, remembering that EVERYTHING has changed. Begin jotting down ideas
about what you might do in a day - remember, you have 7 days to log!
* While researching and taking notes on your area of expertise, note
specific ideas that come to mind about how you would teach your group of
people your task. They don't speak, so describe how you show them. How do
they react? What do they do? Try to be as creative in your story, yet as
detailed and accurate as the time will allow There should not be any access
or use of modern equipment, tools or ammenities. All you have is natural,
raw resources.
* Meet frequently with your group about your ideas for your task - the
Cave Artist will need to be involved with the others the most since he/she
will be drawing your actions on the cave. Get their feedback and try to
stay uniform - you are teaching the same people. One person should not
describe primary traits or actions that another member does not mention.
For example, if one of you decide that your group does hand stands
everymorning, then everyone in the group needs to describe the same thing.
(This was just an example - I am confident this type of ritual was not
prevalent back then!)
* Pace and plan out your adventure. Certain elements must happen on certain
days in order to be done by the end of a week. Remember, you have 7 days,
so if you are the Food Forager, you need to migrate, find resources, make
tools, fish or farm, and teach the hominids how to fish/farm. If you are
working in a group and you are the Tool Treasurer, make the most important
tools on day 2...you must work quickly so your group can proceed with their
task.
* After your group has their ideas solidly in place and journals are mostly
done, you may begin working on a Power Point. This will highlight the main
aspects of each task. Either each person can input their own information
into the PPT and then they can become combined into one PPT presentation,
or, you can choose one person to put it all together. This choice is up to
the group. MAKE SURE YOU COMMUNICATE!!
* On presentation day, the group may present their PPTs and tell us about
their adventure!
* Hard copies of the journals are do on the day of presentation.
The time frame for this project is 3 weeks.
Happy travels, happy research, and happy hominids!
